Vor einigen Jahren nahm Pierre-Laurent Aimard eigens ein Sabbatical, um sich ohne Ablenkungen durch den Konzertbetrieb dem ersten Buch von Bachs Wohltemperiertem Klavier zu widmen. Nun hat er sich mit ähnlicher Hingabe den zweiten Teil des Meisterwerks vorgenommen und interpretiert im Pierre Boulez Saal die 24 Präludien und Fugen, in denen architektonische Strenge und grenzenlose kompositorische Fantasie eine atemberaubende Verbindung eingehen.

The final concert of the season dedicated to the 100th anniversary of Pierre Boulez’s birth features the revolutionary First Piano Sonata of 1946, one of the composer’s major early works. Pierre-Laurent Aimard, long considered to be among the most erudite performers of Boulez’s music, is joined by George Benjamin for this extraordinary program. Together, the two artists present the world premiere of Divisions, a new piece for piano four hands written by Benjamin specifically for the occasion. Aimard also performs Benjamin’s Shadowlines as well as works by Nikolai Obukhov and Maurice Ravel.
